The automobile brand will create around 10,000 jobs and is on track to sell 50,000 units in the country this year.

BYD's plans to build a plant in Mexico will create around 10,000 jobs, putting it on par with some of the country's largest car factories.

The electric vehicle giant is in final negotiations for the location of the facility, and an official announcement is expected in the coming months, explained Jorge Vallejo, the general director of BYD in Mexico. However, it has not clarified how many of those workers would be employed directly by BYD versus contractors or suppliers.

A plant that size would employ more people than the facilities of some other automakers in the country, such as Audi. Volkswagen's plant in Puebla - the largest in the country - employs 6,100 assembly line workers and 5,000 supervisory employees, along with thousands of people who are responsible for assembling parts.

The car brand is on track to sell 50,000 units in the country this year. Last month, BYD launched its Shark hybrid truck in Mexico, a further sign of the country's growing importance to the company.

GROWTH OF THE AUTOMOTIVE INDUSTRY IN MEXICO

The automobile industry is experiencing a moment of growth in Mexico, which is confirmed by the plans of several companies in the sector to establish themselves and grow in the country.

This week it was also learned that Tesla maintains its idea of entering the Mexican market, with its sights set on installing a factory in Nuevo León where it will produce its vehicles.

The new Secretary of Economy, Marcelo Ebrard, under the future administration of the elected president Claudia Sheinbaum, was in charge of confirming this news, announcing that he will closely follow this investment in his new position.
