The sector association reported to Inegi that truck production from January to August of this year registered a decrease of 3.6% compared to the same period in 2023, with a total of 145,236 locally assembled vehicles, compared to 150,730 trucks in the previous year.
Heavy vehicle production in Mexico increased 12.1% last August compared to 2023, and by assembling 21,769 units, the eighth month of the year is set as a record and second best in the history of manufacturing, said Rogelio Arzate, executive president of the National Association of Bus, Truck and Tractor Producers (ANPACT).
This improvement was mainly due to the growth in demand in the US market, although the heavy automotive industry sent trucks to nine different destinations.
According to data from Inegi, trucking companies based in Mexico increased their exports to the world by 7.5% during August, reporting 16,251 units compared to the 15,114 trucks shipped during 2023.
“We are recovering within the production process,” said the leader of ANPACT, after the industry faced some problems with disruption in the delivery of parts and components due to an accident at a mirror factory that delayed production and delivery of units.
ANPACT reported to Inegi that truck production from January to August of this year registered a decrease of 3.6% compared to the same period in 2023, with 145,236 vehicles assembled in Mexico compared to 150,730 trucks in the previous year.
Similarly, exports maintain the same trend, falling 7.5% during the first eight months of 2024, and reporting 111,398 units shipped to the world, compared to 120,445 units in 2023.
This is a reflection of the volatility that is occurring with our main trading partner (the United States), but we are positive that this will be reversed within the next few months, and once the electoral process (to elect a president in the US) is over," said the president of ANPACT.
In fact, he said, last August truck exports to the United States recovered and grew 4.3% compared to the same month in 2024, by shipping 15,165 units.
Retail truck sales grew 14.2% in August compared to the same month in 2023, which places it as the fifth positive annual rate of the year, reaching 5,402 units, highlighted Guillermo Rosales, president of the Mexican Association of Automotive Distributors (AMDA).
The recorded level is 75% higher than a similar month in 2019, he added, while the cumulative figure is 30% higher than that year. Truck sales reached 37,122 units from January to August, growing 9.8% compared to 2023.
