Visitors from Latin America, the United States, Canada and Spain are returning to the Andean country with greater numbers.
The Peruvian Commission for the Promotion of Exports and Tourism (PromPerú) indicated that spending by foreign visitors (currency) arriving in our country is increasing.
“Regarding inbound tourism, at the end of the second half of this year, we have achieved US$ 2,193 million, which means a recovery of 97% compared to the same period in 2019 (US$ 2,266 million), that is, foreign visitors are spending more,” said the executive president of PromPerú, Claricia Tirado, to the Andina Agency.
The official explained that this conclusion was reached considering that we are still far from the number of international tourists who visited Peru before the pandemic, but the currencies are close to equaling.
“By 2024, inbound tourism is projected to reach 3 million 481,554 trips by international tourists to Peru, representing a growth of 37.9% compared to 2023, when it reached 2 million 524,658 foreign visitors. In addition, there would be an 80% recovery compared to pre-pandemic figures (4 million 371,787 international tourists),” he said.
The executive president of PromPerú pointed out that tourists from Latin America, the United States, Canada, Spain and the United Kingdom are returning to Peru with greater fluency.
“We have also seen a good recovery in tourists from Asia and Oceania, which are markets that generate high spending, so it is important to continue working there,” he said.
Claricia Tirado said that PromPerú is working on a four-pillar strategy: campaigns at the international and national level; strategic alliances to consolidate inbound tourism and domestic tourism through the offer of tickets and accommodations; strengthening the commercial channel for regional companies to sell their products and services, and high-impact events such as Perú Mucho Gusto or the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum (APEC).
