The CEO of the American company said that these resources will be used to strengthen artificial intelligence and cloud capabilities in Mexico.
During his visit to Mexico City, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella announced that the American technology company will invest US$1.3 billion in Mexico over the next three years.
According to the executive, this investment will be aimed at strengthening the development of Artificial Intelligence and cloud computing among the company's clients in the country.
Nadella gave the opening keynote of the Microsoft AI Tour in Mexico City, where he showcased the company's innovations in artificial intelligence agents and the deployment of data centers and Azure cloud regions.
The resources will also be aimed at improving connectivity and promoting the adoption of artificial intelligence among small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), in order to accelerate their digital transformation and business growth.
With this investment, the executive announced that the company also plans to train 5 million people in Artificial Intelligence skills in Mexico over the next three years.
"I'm excited to announce that we are doubling down on our efforts to increase capacity in Mexico by investing an additional $1.3 billion. This capital allows us to drive a profound transformation in the ability of local ecosystems to leverage this new raw material as an input, so that they can create value," Nadella said.
A WORLD OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE AGENTS
Microsoft's CEO warned that he does not see many differences between what is happening in Mexico and the United States regarding the use of artificial intelligence by companies.
Nadella cited the example of companies such as Grupo Bimbo, Capgemini, Grupo Carso and Cemex among those that have already begun to use artificial intelligence tools such as the Copilot agent offered by Microsoft.
The executive said that the technological revolution that artificial intelligence implies lies in the fact that digital assistants are being built for all uses, from personal to business.
“This world of agents has personal agents, agents that work on behalf of teams and organizations. For example, you can have an agent for your sales team, or an agent for your marketing team. You can even have agents for entire business processes within an organization. So in this sense, you take the digital systems that you already have and you overlay them with a rich tapestry of AI agents, starting with the individual,” Nadella said.
CLOUD REGION
At the beginning of 2020, Microsoft announced the installation of a cloud region in Mexico, as well as an investment of US$ 1.1 billion in the country.
Microsoft's new cloud region in Mexico was inaugurated in May 2024, almost four years after it was announced, and now the company has made official a second investment of US$1.3 billion.
Microsoft's cloud region in Mexico is part of the 40 regions through which the company offers its services globally, which are made up of more than 300 data centers distributed throughout the world.
