According to Vinos de Chile, in terms of value, shipments abroad remained at a similar level to the same month in 2023, with a return of US$ 119.7 million.
The Wine Association of Chile reported that in August, bottled wine box exports registered an increase of 7.7% in volume, with 4 million boxes shipped abroad. Meanwhile, the average price was US$30.2/box, which represents a decrease of -6.6%.
Several major destinations recorded significant increases in shipments this month, but Brazil stands out again, receiving 929,000 boxes for more than US$ 21 million, representing an increase of 30% in volume and 21% in value compared to August 2023. On the contrary, China continues to experience strong declines and this month was no exception: -32% in volume and -37% in value, ranking fifth for the month.
In other categories, bulk wine exports stand out this month with an increase of 74% in volume and 44% in value compared to August last year.
In the year to date, exports reached 31 million boxes for a value of US$ 867 million, which means an increase of 13.3% in volume and 5.5% in value compared to the same period in 2023. The average price remains below last year at -6.9%, with US$ 27.9/box. Almost all Top 10 markets show increases compared to the same period last year. Brazil is in first place and registers an increase of 17% in volume and value. Also noteworthy is the increase in shipments to the USA, the United Kingdom, Japan, Canada, the Netherlands, Mexico and Ireland. The exception is China.
The twelve-month analysis shows, for the first time, a positive volume of exports, with an increase of 4.7% compared to the same period last year. Shipments reached 45.8 million boxes for US$1,279 million dollars. This last figure, however, remains below the previous cycle, with -1.1%. The average price is US$27.9/box, which represents a fall of -5.5%.
Brazil is the main destination with an advantage over the last twelve months and already accounts for 17% of Chilean bottled wine exports in volume and 15% of their value. In this moving year, 7.8 million cases have been sent to that market for a value of US$192 million, which represents an increase of 12% in volume and value. The other markets with positive figures in this twelve-month comparison are: the USA; the United Kingdom; the Netherlands, Canada; Mexico and Ireland.
