With the new aviation regulations applied by the Government of Javier Milei, the company could be interested in resuming its operations in the South American country.
Latam Airlines could resume operations in Argentina in the coming months, more than four years after having left the South American nation, according to an informal statement by Argentina's Minister of Deregulation and State Transformation, Federico Sturzenegger.
The Chilean airline left Argentina in February 2021. Now, with the new air regulations applied by the Government of Javier Milei, the company could be interested in resuming its operations in the South American country.
Among other things, according to the newspaper La Nación , the minister referred to the rules that authorize companies to have foreign personnel and to carry out activities under the registration of another country.
"Latam told me that, under these conditions, it would fly again in Argentina," this newspaper reports, referring to statements made by the minister to various businessmen in the country. Although no deadlines have been mentioned, Mendoza and Córdoba could be the first destinations to which the airline would return.
Since Milei came to power, Argentina has implemented an open skies policy with several countries, including Chile, which allows the entry of various foreign airlines into the country.
The announcement of the possible, though not imminent, arrival of Latam Airlines in the country comes at a time of maximum tension with Aerolíneas Argentinas, the Argentine state-owned company, which is facing a privatization process that has aroused the rejection of its workers.
