In her morning press conference on Tuesday, the Mexican president explained that the depreciation is due to international reasons, such as these statements by "a candidate" whom she did not want to mention or the drop in interest rates in Japan.

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum has blamed the depreciation of the Mexican peso in recent days on recent statements by former US President and Republican candidate in the country's upcoming elections, Donald Trump, on a possible renegotiation of the trade agreement between the two countries.

However, despite Trump's more protectionist rhetoric, in the event of a possible victory for the candidate, Sheinbaum has guaranteed that the free trade agreement between Mexico, the United States and Canada "is not at risk", regardless of which party wins at the polls on November 5.

In her morning press conference on Tuesday, the Mexican president explained that the depreciation is due to international reasons, such as these statements by "a candidate" whom she did not want to mention or the drop in interest rates in Japan.

"It has nothing to do with the Mexican economy," Sheinbaum said, referring to Donald Trump's statements last week. According to her, his words are part of the discourse typical of election campaigns and there is no risk that the event will be cancelled.

For Sheinbaum, American businessmen are fully committed to economic integration between both countries, since the United States depends "a lot" on its main commercial partner and Mexico has "a lot of interrelation" with its neighboring country.

He also stressed that there is no competition between the two countries, not even in the automotive industry, which has been heavily questioned in recent days by candidate Donald Trump, who has opened the door to more tariffs in this sector.

"Regardless of who wins, there will be a good relationship, I am sure of it, because there is a level of integration that is well known to both candidates," she reiterated.
