This was stated by Alexandre Nogueira, CEO of Mercedes Benz Autobuses in Mexico, highlighting that domestic bus sales will achieve another record year by the end of 2024, with 10,000 units.

Mercedes Benz Autobuses de México has decided to “take it easy and patiently” in response to threats by Donald Trump, the next president of the United States, to impose tariffs on Mexican vehicle exports, since the German corporation considers Mexico to be a key market with great potential, ready to supply new countries.

This was stated by Alexandre Nogueira, CEO of Mercedes Benz Autobuses in Mexico, highlighting that domestic bus sales will achieve another record year by the end of 2024, with 10,000 units, when the average sales are around 8,000 and 8,500 buses.

So far, Mercedes Benz does not export buses from Mexico, but it is preparing its plants to supply the United States, as a strategy to replace imports from Turkey and that with electromobility, the Mexican market will regain relevance for selling to the domestic and foreign markets.

“I think that 2024 was definitely an important year for the country, as there is an organic recovery after the pandemic that implied significant growth,” so the bus industry should reach close to 10,000 units sold as a result of the political process and elections in many states that invested in programs and fleet renewal, Nogueira considered.

During his year-end speech and his expectations for 2025, the executive of the leading automotive company in heavy units in Mexico lamented that next year there will be a slowdown in the domestic market.

“There are two things for 2025: first, it will be the first year of a new government (in Mexico) and there is also the formal introduction of Euro 6 (the new technology with lower polluting emissions for trucks) in the country and as we knew Euro 6 requires an Ultra Low Sulfur (DUBA) diesel, and distribution is still in preparation. So in our sampling, expectations and volumes, we think it will not be a year like 2024 in sales,” he added.

As of November of this year, Mercedes Benz has sold 8,422 buses, with a 44.8% market share in Mexico.
