Chilean copper exports rise in December, generating trade surplus

In the last month of the year, the southern country exported a total of US$ 9,422 million, an increase of 18.9% compared to shipments in the same month of 2023.

The value of Chile's copper exports rose 12.7% in December and the country posted a trade surplus of US$2.39 billion, the Central Bank reported on Tuesday.

Copper exports - the country's largest export - amounted to US$4.662 billion.

Meanwhile, imports totaled US$ 7.032 billion, an interannual increase of 14.6%.

In this way, Chilean copper shipments continue their upward trend, as in November its value grew by 7.1% and the country obtained a trade surplus of US$ 1,383 million. At the same time, the South American country exported a total of US$ 7,941 million, an increase of 2.6% compared to shipments in the same month of 2023.

At that time, the value of exports of the red metal amounted to US$ 4.22 billion and imports to US$ 6.559 billion, registering a year-on-year increase of 2.5%.

However, copper export prices have not yet surpassed the October figures, when they reached US$ 4.682 billion.
