This will be the case of Antofagasta and Tarapacá, whose ports will be a focal point for the flow of products to and from Argentina, Paraguay and Brazil, generating new business opportunities with Asia Pacific countries.
The second session of the High Level Commission was led by the Minister of Economy, Development and Tourism of Chile, Nicolás Grau, and was attended by the Minister of the Interior and Public Security, Carolina Tohá; the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Alberto Van Klaveren; the Minister of Transport and Telecommunications, Juan Carlos Muñoz; the Undersecretary of Finance, Heidi Berner, and the governors of the regions of Tarapacá and Antofagasta, José Miguel Carvajal and Ricardo Díaz.
The meeting addressed the various commitments and progress made in the first version, as well as other topics such as the action plan for the next stages contained in the work agenda, security work, the development of road and port infrastructure located in the regions of Antofagasta and Tarapacá, the coordination between the countries involved in the Bioceanic Corridor and the alignment at the border level, the analysis of new business opportunities for the north of the country and the establishment of milestones for this year.
"Today we have finalised the main measures of an Action Plan that will speed up the proper functioning of the Bioceanic Road Corridor, a key project for regional integration and economic development," said the Minister of Economy.
For his part, the Minister of Foreign Affairs explained that he is working on establishing links with the other three countries that are part of this Bioceanic Road Corridor: Brazil, Paraguay and Argentina.
"What is important is to achieve complete harmony with the three sister countries in order to complete this great project and promote the full potential of this Bioceanic Road Corridor in the rest of the international community," he stressed.
"We have been discussing the possibility of having a corridor that links southern Brazil, with enormous food potential, via Paraguay, via Argentina to our ports. This is a significant opportunity for Chile's competitiveness, to be able to be the port of departure for all foods and at the same time be able to protect ourselves as a reliable and important partner for our neighbors on the South American continent," added the Minister of Transport, Juan Carlos Muñoz.
