As we recall, the US president warned that he would impose a tariff on copper, Chile's main export.
Chilean Foreign Minister Alberto van Klaveren led the first meeting of the team charged with monitoring the effects of trade measures announced by US President Donald Trump.
Specifically, the aim of this commission is to study and plan measures to best address the tariff changes that the US president intends to implement.
It is worth remembering that in the case of Chile, it warned that it would impose a tariff on copper, Chile's main export.
According to the Foreign Ministry, the meeting discussed the different scenarios that "are projected for international copper trade and how these could affect Chile."
The working group also “agreed to meet periodically to continue monitoring and exchanging information.”
The Minister of Mining, Aurora Williams, the Undersecretary of International Economic Relations, Claudia Sanhueza, the Undersecretary of Mining, Suina Chahuán, and the Executive Vice President (s) of Cochilco, Claudia Rodríguez, were present at the work meeting.
Also participating, but remotely, were the Chilean ambassador to the United States, Juan Gabriel Valdés, and the Chairman of the Board of Codelco, Máximo Pacheco.
