América Móvil, Carlos Slim's telecommunications group, reduced its net profit in 2024 by 62.8% compared to the previous year, leaving it with earnings of 28.308 billion Mexican pesos (US$ 1.373 billion).
According to the company's financial report, revenues rose 6.5% year-on-year to 869.221 billion Mexican pesos (US$ 42.186 billion). Costs, meanwhile, increased 5.8% compared to 2023 to 524.992 billion Mexican pesos (US$ 25.479 billion).
By market, América Móvil generated revenues of 332,024 million Mexican pesos (US$ 16,114 million) in Mexico, 2.3% more year-on-year. Meanwhile, revenue increased by 6.7% in Brazil, 4.9% in Colombia, 5.8% in Central America, 3.3% in Argentina, 5.6% in Eastern Europe and 0.3% in Austria.
In contrast, the company's revenues in the markets of Peru, Ecuador and the Caribbean contracted compared to 2023, by 8.5%, 0.6% and 7.8%, respectively.
Gross operating profit (EBITDA) reached 344,228 million Mexican pesos (US$ 17,706 million), representing an increase of 7.7% compared to the 2023 figure.
Finally, the operating result was 180.1 billion Mexican pesos (US$ 8.74 billion) for the year as a whole, which is equivalent to an increase of 7.3% compared to 2023.
In the fourth quarter, América Móvil's net profit fell to 9.48 billion Mexican pesos (460 million euros), 47.5% less than in the same period of the previous year. Revenues, however, rose 18% year-on-year.
