In addition, Claudia Sheibaum has said that this Wednesday or Thursday there will be a call between the Secretary of Economy of Mexico, Marcelo Ebrard and the Secretary of State of the United States, Marco Rubio.

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum has confirmed that Mexico's Economy Secretary Marcelo Ebrard has held a conversation with US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick to present his arguments against the 25% tariffs on steel and aluminum.

He also said that on Wednesday or Thursday there will be a call between Ebrard and the Secretary of State of the United States, Marco Rubio, to continue discussing this issue, as part of Mexico's strategy to avoid these tariffs.

Last Tuesday, Ebrard said that this measure is "a shot in the foot" and is illogical and unjustified since the United States exports more steel and aluminum than Mexico.

"The United States sells more to us. This tariff is not justified, it is not logical," he said.

These explanations will be shared as soon as possible through a letter to the White House so that the economic team of the President of the United States, Donald Trump, is aware of the disadvantages of these tariffs.

"They export more than we do. The United States has a surplus in this area, it is not in their interest to impose tariffs on Mexico," Sheinbaum insisted this Wednesday at her usual morning press conference.
