The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) plans to invest more than US$90 million to boost the Carmesí line of Mi Teleférico, connecting La Paz and El Alto, according to the Minister of Public Works.
The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) has expressed interest in financially supporting the Carmesí line of the Mi Teleférico cable car system in Bolivia.
The projected investment, which exceeds US$ 90 million, is part of the efforts made by the Government of Luis Arce last week to modernize and expand the transportation infrastructure between La Paz and El Alto.
Bolivia's Minister of Public Works, Edgar Montaño, explained at a press conference that the IDB is evaluating this investment with a view to materializing a project that promises to transform urban mobility.
"It is an investment of more than US$ 90 million, and our negotiations with the IDB have shown great interest on the part of this institution," Montaño told reporters, stressing the strategic importance of this initiative for the development of the Altiplano country.

The new Carmesí line aims to connect key points between the two cities. In El Alto, the route will start from the Germán Busch plaza, located in the Alto Lima area, will pass through areas such as La Portada, cross the Central Station of the Red line in La Paz and end in the Miraflores area.
Stretching for 3.2 kilometres and with a total journey time of approximately 11 minutes, the system is expected to provide a fast and comfortable transport solution for more than 4,000 passengers per hour, using 160 cabins.
Minister Montaño stressed that this investment will not only contribute to improving mobility, but will also boost the profitability of the system, especially in District 6 of El Alto, where the new service is expected to have a positive impact on the quality of life of citizens.
He also stressed that a bill is being prepared to approve the implementation of this line and will be submitted to the Legislative Assembly shortly.
"We hope that the ALP will give its approval, which will allow us to move forward with this important project," he added.
The authorities hope that the project will be treated differently, compared to the extension of the Mi Teleférico Brown Line, an initiative that was rejected by legislators.
