Stellantis is expected to maintain production at its Toluca plant in the State of Mexico, starting next Monday and continuing throughout the month of April.

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum assured this Friday that the temporary closure announced last Thursday by Stellantis in Mexico will not result in job losses at the company in the country.

This was stated during his morning press conference, after noting that Economy Secretary Marcelo Ebrard had spoken with the company to learn more details about last Thursday's announcement.

Stellantis is expected to maintain production at its plant in Toluca (State of Mexico) halted starting next Monday and continuing throughout the month of April. The reason for this temporary closure is the new 25% tariffs on vehicle exports to the United States.

However, the president has attributed this closure to an assessment of the new tariff situation and insisted that the company is "far from it" considering reducing its workforce in Mexico.

For the time being, Mexico, like the rest of the world, is subject to 25% tariffs on automobiles and the aluminum and steel industries. In this context, Sheinbaum hopes to improve conditions in Mexico due, among other factors, to its geographic proximity to the United States.
