"What we are doing is expressing our willingness to enter into this negotiation process and review the best conditions to seek a possible reduction in the 10% tariff currently in effect," the Minister of Commerce stated.
Colombia's Minister of Commerce, Industry, and Tourism, Cielo Rusinque, explained this Friday that the Colombian government has sent a letter to the United States to begin negotiations on the 10% tariff the country has imposed on Colombian exports.
"What we are doing is expressing our willingness to enter into this negotiation process and review the best conditions to seek a possible reduction in the 10% tariff currently in effect," he stated.
Along these lines, he clarified that Colombia has not been exempt from the tariffs, as it was not among the countries to which reciprocal tariffs higher than the 10% generally agreed upon were applied.
The minister also explained that Colombia's trade policy is not focused solely on the United States, but that the executive branch is making progress toward the necessary diversification of its trade balance.
For this reason, they are prioritizing the countries that make up the Central and South American region and have initiated a series of high-level talks with countries such as Brazil, where the minister plans to travel next week.
