This project, commissioned by the Autopista Central Concession Company of the Vías Chile Group, will improve connectivity between two of Santiago's main urban axes: General Velásquez and Américo Vespucio Norte.

OHLA has been awarded a new contract in Chile to carry out the construction of a road infrastructure project in Santiago, Chile, for €280 million (US$317.9 million) and a 50-month execution period.

This project, commissioned by the Autopista Central Concession Company of the Vías Chile Group, will improve connectivity between two of the capital's main urban axes: General Velásquez and Américo Vespucio Norte.

The contract also includes the construction of a new 1.5-kilometer-long twin-tube mine tunnel under Lo Ruiz Hill, the company reported in a statement.

The tunnel will have two one-way tunnels: the East Tunnel (South-North), with two lanes along its entire length; and the West Tunnel (North-South), which will begin with three lanes and then continue with two. Both tunnels will be connected to the two main urban axes via viaducts.

As part of sustainable development, additional works will be carried out to create new green areas for recreational use, covering approximately 164,000 square meters.

In this regard, a park will also be built in the Quilicura district during the tunnel construction phase, while two parks are planned in the Renca district.

OHLA has been present in Chile since 1981, since when it has participated in infrastructure projects such as the Américo Vespucio Oriente I Highway, one of the largest road infrastructure projects in Chile.

The project included the construction of 9.1 kilometers of this urban highway, which currently runs through five communes of Santiago de Chile (La Reina, Las Condes, Vitacura, Recoleta, and Huechuraba) and has three lanes in each direction for most of its length.
