“We entrust the soul of Pope Francis to the infinitely merciful love of God,” declared Cardinal Kevin Farrell from Vatican City.

At 88 years of age and after suffering a painful illness, Jorge Mario Bergoglio, Pope Francis, passed away today.

Cardinal Kevin Farrell announced the death of the Supreme Pontiff, the first pope of Latin American origin, at 7:35 a.m. Vatican time.

“We entrust the soul of Pope Francis to the infinite merciful love of God,” he said.

"It is with profound sorrow that I announce that Pope Francis died at 7:35 a.m. today. The Bishop of Rome has returned to his Father's house. His entire life was dedicated to serving the Lord and his Church, and he taught us the value of the Gospel with fidelity, courage, and universal love, particularly in favor of the poorest and most marginalized," Farrel announced.

And he continued: "With immense gratitude for his example as a disciple of the Lord Jesus, we commend the soul of Pope Francis to the infinite merciful love of the Triune God."
