"Mexico is a great country and our economy is doing well, but there will be no submission," said Claudia Sheinbaum.

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum announced on Wednesday that they will seek to coordinate with Canada and other countries affected by the imposition of tariffs by the Trump Administration to respond jointly.

"This is a very decisive moment for Mexico," said the president, who stressed that there will be no "submission" regardless of how events develop.

If things continue as they are, he explained, they will "go looking for Canada and other countries" that are also affected by the United States Government's tariffs.

"Mexico is a great country and our economy is doing well, but there will be no submission," said Sheinbaum, regretting that some political and media sectors in Mexico have celebrated this 25 percent tax on exports. "It is very unpatriotic," she said during her daily press conference.

After Trump confirmed on Tuesday that tariffs on Mexico and Canada would come into effect that same day, Sheinbaum and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced that they would respond with similar measures.

Although Sheinbaum is still confident that she can convince her counterpart in the White House, she has summoned citizens to a public hearing this Sunday in the Plaza del Zócalo, in Mexico City, to inform them of "the tariff and non-tariff measures" that her government plans to implement.
