Projected by the Peruvian Vice Minister of MSMEs and Industry, César Quispe.

More than 1,100 entrepreneurs from member economies of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum (APEC) are expected to arrive in Peru, which would boost the level of capital in Peru, said the Vice Minister of Mype and Industry, César Quispe Luján.

We have as positive points the inauguration of the port of Chancay and the opening of the new Jorge Chávez International Airport, all of which helps make the Andean country more attractive for investors, he said in an interview for the Official Gazette El Peruano .

–The Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Leaders Week will be held in Lima from November 10 to 16, but there were previous sectoral meetings. What was achieved in your sector?

–We held the APEC ministerial meeting on micro and small enterprises (MSEs) in the city of Pucallpa (Ucayali) from September 9 to 13 of this year, where a joint declaration of the economies of the bloc was achieved, after two years.

It was agreed to generate public policies so that these productive units can take advantage of digitalization for the purpose of exporting, but also so that they become formalized, empower women and enter the circular economy.

APEC is a space in which the experiences of each of the economies in the bloc are shared.

–But not only political leaders come, but also businessmen…

–The last time Peru hosted APEC, in 2016, the arrival of around 1,000 businesspeople to our country generated more than US$6 billion in business done in Peruvian territory.

More than 1,100 businesspeople from APEC economies will now arrive in Peru and we hope that in the coming years there will be a strong investment in our country that will exceed US$ 8 billion.

In addition, we have the opening of the port of Chancay and the opening of the new Jorge Chávez International Airport as positive points, all of which help make Peru more attractive to investors.

–What is your sector working on to boost the economic recovery of our country?

–There is a set of actions, including the National Program for Productive Diversification (PNDP), through which we are promoting intervention in supply markets, because as the Ministry of Production we are strongly supporting the modernization of supply markets because they are spaces where the local economy can be revitalized and food security can be provided.

The PNDP is therefore responsible for providing technical assistance and support in the formulation of projects for the remodelling or construction of supply markets, in addition to preparing technical files for industrial parks.

–What other measures or actions are carried out in your portfolio?

–We have the National Program for Technological Development and Innovation (ProInnóvate), the centers for productive innovation and technological transfer (Cite) and the National Program Your Company, which aim to boost the economy in different regions of the country.

–With new activities or “engines” to boost regional economies?

–Of course, with the Cite we look for products in each region to be able to give them added value and get the most out of them.

For example, cocoa or camu camu in the jungle departments, and aquaculture in certain areas with potential for raising trout, tilapia or paiche.

–Is the policy of productive diversification being resumed?

–We are strengthening our involvement in productive development through innovation and transformation, providing non-reimbursable funds for initiatives with a technological component.

–The Christmas campaign is approaching. Are you planning any measures to support micro and small businesses?

–We strongly support the issue of formalization, because we know that this is what SMEs need to obtain maximum benefit from a market; that is why we are involved in a strong campaign with the Tu Empresa Program and we have formalized almost 58,000 SMEs.

In addition, we work at fairs so that SMEs can sell their products.

As an example, I will say that there is an Expo Puno coming to the Parque de la Exposición in Lima, and we will create different spaces so that SMEs have the opportunity to sell wine, chocolate, coffee, crafts and other products during this Christmas season.

We will even set up virtual platforms so that these production units can sell.

–The manufacturing sector is growing this year. What explains the recovery of this productive activity and what is the forecast for the end of this year?

–Confidence is returning to Peru, the different sectors are generating clear public policies of respect for private investment and this gives confidence.

We expect the Peruvian economy to expand by more than 3% and manufacturing activity to grow by 3.3% to 3.5% by the end of this year, which means there are very good prospects for our country.
