These are new tourist destinations that are not traditionally visited by foreigners.
The countries of the Andean Community (CAN) are preparing to promote new tourist destinations in the Asian region on the occasion of the visit of the member economies of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum (APEC) to Lima (Peru).
This was announced by the Secretary General of the CAN, Peruvian Ambassador Gonzalo Gutiérrez, in statements to the Andina Agency , who specified that these are new locations different from the traditional tourist areas.
"We are developing a project to incorporate and publicize 40 new non-traditional tourist destinations. We are not talking about Machu Picchu or Kuélap, but about new places in the four countries of the subregion," said Gutiérrez.
The ambassador said that this project will "possibly" be completed in early 2025. If this objective is achieved, the destinations in Asia will be promoted through collaboration with the Chinese news agency Xin Hua.
"We want to promote these 40 new tourist destinations in Asia, which will benefit the four countries of the Andean subregion and will allow for better cultural knowledge and life experiences in the community," he said.
"We are not yet receiving the pre-pandemic level of tourism, nor the level of potential tourism that we could receive from countries like China or the Asia-Pacific," he said.
On the other hand, the Secretary General of the Andean Community assured that the APEC Peru 2024 Forum is important because it will allow to show the opportunities that exist both in Peru and in the Andean Community so that China and the rest of the member economies can strengthen their commercial, investment and cultural ties with the region.
"The fact that such important leaders as those who are coming are generating business opportunities is good for the Andean countries, which are also very integrated and have joint investments. These are opportunities open to everyone," he said.
