This is in response to the 34% tariffs on US imports imposed by the Asian giant.

US President Donald Trump threatened on Monday to impose an additional 50% tariff on China if Beijing does not lift the tariffs imposed on US products by tomorrow, April 8, in retaliation for the Republican's tariff plan.

"If China does not withdraw its 34% tariff increase, in addition to its long-term trade abuses, by tomorrow, April 8, 2025, the United States will impose additional 50% tariffs on China, effective April 9," Trump declared on his Truth Social network.

Trump also warned that "all talks with China will be suspended" regarding negotiations that the Republican said Beijing has requested to address the trade war.

The president criticized China for imposing 34% tariffs on U.S. imports, trade barriers that, in Trump's words, "come on top of their record tariffs, non-monetary tariffs, illegal corporate subsidies, and massive long-term currency manipulation."

Remember his warning

"This is despite my warning that any country that retaliates against the United States by imposing additional tariffs (...) will immediately face new, substantially higher tariffs beyond those initially imposed," he declared.

China imposed 34% tariffs on the United States after Trump unleashed a trade war with the rest of the world on April 2 by announcing minimum tariffs of 10% and additional tariffs in some cases, amounting to 34% for the Asian giant.

Added to other previous tariffs, Trump reportedly imposed tariffs on China totaling 54%. Beijing warned this Monday that "pressure and threats are not the right way to engage with China."

Trump has expressed his "openness" to negotiating with individual countries only if it helps reduce the United States' trade deficit with other nations, but more and more analysts fear that tariffs could ultimately trigger a global recession.
