According to an OECD study, China, the United States, Japan, South Korea and Taiwan promoted between 72% and 98% of digital technologies in 25 areas.

Only five nations, China, the United States, Japan, South Korea and Taiwan , led much of the planet's technological development between 2013 and 2016. According to a document from the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), between 72% and 98% of digital technologies in 25 areas were worked on by these countries.

In that period, the United States was the undisputed leader in areas related to air control (with 53% of the total), algorithms based on biological models (43%) or mathematical models (39%), indicated the international organization.

In its report “Measuring digital transformation: a roadmap for the future” , the OECD reported that these technologies are essential for promoting employment, given that sectors with high digital content generated close to 40% of the 38 million jobs generated in the member countries of the organization between 2006 and 2016.

In 2015 alone (the last year with data available) 35% of exports came from China. The “Great World Factory” of computer, electronic and optical products generated nearly half a billion dollars in gross exports.

Regarding technological services linked to communication , Ireland appears as the “number one” country in exports, with 16% of the total. This data is related to the strategic location of numerous European headquarters of many important companies in this sector.

Ireland is followed by India with 12.5% and followed by China, Germany and the United States. These five countries represented 52% of exports in 2017 , compared to 40% in 2008.
