OECD: Colombia and Chile are among the most affected by unemployment, while Mexico progresses

In the third month of the year, the unemployment rate increased in eight OECD countries, remained unchanged in 22 and decreased in two.

The unemployment rate of the countries of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) stood at 4.9% in March, unchanged and at its lowest level since June 2023, as reported by the organization this Thursday. , which has also pointed out Spain as the member country with the highest unemployment rate, with 11.7%.

In the third month of the year, the unemployment rate increased in eight OECD countries, remained unchanged in 22 and decreased in two.

For its part, the number of unemployed grew to 34.19 million, an increase of 292,000 unemployed compared to the previous month.

The highest unemployment rates in the OECD were observed in Spain, with 11.7%; Colombia, with 11.2%; Greece, with 10.2%; as well as Chile and Türkiye, with 8.6%.

On the contrary, the lowest levels of unemployment were in Mexico and Japan, both with 2.6%, ahead of South Korea, with 2.8%, and the Czech Republic and Poland, both with 2.9%.

In the case of unemployment among those under 25 years of age, the index did not change in March and remained at 10.9%. The main increases in youth unemployment were observed in Finland, New Zealand and Sweden.

However, the highest levels of unemployment in this age group were recorded in Spain (27.2%), Sweden (26.6%) and Portugal (22.3%). On the other hand, the lowest rates were recorded in Israel and Japan (4.5%), Mexico (4.5%) and Germany (5.8%).

By sex, female unemployment in the OECD increased two tenths, to 5.3%, which widened the gap with the male rate (4.6%) to seven tenths.

The unemployment rate for women exceeded that of men in March in the European Union, the eurozone and 20 OECD countries, with the largest gaps in Colombia, Greece and Turkey.
